Soft object- material exploration on grief
Soft object- material exploration on grief
digital collage on fabric
2024

Exploring metaphors of grief through collage and material transformation. Beginning as digital collages comprised of family photographs, intergenerational trauma motifs emerged; mostly related to grief and loss. Photo transfer material was applied to fabric in an effort to "soften" the traumatic memory in the digital collage. Further transformation was applied in stitching as a statement of further processing the intergenerational grief: I remember you. The photo transferred and printed fabric was backed with vintage fabric from my family collection and stuffed with poly fill. I imagined them small pillows or soft objects for hard memories.
